Promoting Awareness, Dignity and Healthy Menstrual Practices

Launched in 2024, the Menstrual Health & Hygiene Programme is an initiative of Artemis Health Sciences Foundation aimed at promoting awareness, dignity, health and well-being among adolescent girls and women from underserved communities in Gurugram.

The programme focuses on creating awareness around menstruation, menstrual hygiene management and healthy practices, while encouraging girls and women to approach menstruation with greater knowledge, confidence and dignity. Through interactive awareness sessions, beneficiaries were educated about maintaining personal hygiene during menstruation, safe menstrual practices and the importance of taking care of their overall health and well-being.

As part of the initiative, beneficiaries were also provided with a Menstrual Health & Hygiene Kit designed to support their hygiene needs.

The programme was implemented in collaboration with Pinkishe Foundation, leveraging its expertise and community outreach to strengthen awareness and reach among women and adolescent girls.

Beneficiary Stories

Khushi, 14
Learning to Understand Menstruation Without Fear

Khushi, a 14-year-old student at a government girls’ school in Gurugram, was among the adolescent girls who participated in the Menstrual Health & Hygiene Programme of Artemis Health Sciences Foundation.

Like many young girls, Khushi had questions and misconceptions about menstruation but often found it difficult to openly discuss them. The awareness session gave her a safe and supportive space to learn about menstruation, menstrual hygiene and the importance of maintaining healthy practices during her periods.

The session also helped Khushi understand and question several myths and social misconceptions surrounding menstruation. She learned that menstruation is a natural biological process and that maintaining proper hygiene and having accurate information are important for her health and well-being.

The knowledge she gained helped her feel more confident and comfortable discussing menstrual health, while also encouraging her to follow healthier hygiene practices.
